Our Outreach Initiatives are long-term efforts to meet needs found in our neighborhood
through the callings and giftings within our church community.

Safe Families is a volunteer-driven ministry with the goal of keeping kids safe and families intact. We organize vetted and trained volunteers from local churches to offer individualized support for families in crisis. We aim to offer a broad community of support to those in our city who may need assistance and/or have limited resources.

The parents that we serve are often overwhelmed by their circumstances and socially isolated. We want the church to become their community as we form extended family like relationships. Our volunteers seek to empower, encourage, and strengthen families through mutually beneficial relationships. We seek to reduce foster care numbers by supporting families as we know that stress and isolation can lead to abuse and neglect.

There are a variety of volunteer roles to come alongside overwhelmed families. The roles are flexible and volunteers can offer support according to their skills, interests, and availability.

Mother to Mother

Mother to Mother is an initiative based in Sunset Park, Brooklyn that aims to bring women, mothers and their families from all different backgrounds and cultures together to learn from and empower one another.

They provide educational tools, including English conversation classes, for women in local immigrant communities.  They invite mothers to bring their children to the classes and learn alongside their children.

In providing these services, they hope is to create community and build friendships across cultures and neighborhoods that may not intersect otherwise.  They believe there is space on both sides to learn from and empower each other.

They have partnered with Mixteca Organization, a local Hispanic led non-profit that has been serving the Hispanic community of Sunset Park and Bay Ridge since the 1990’s, to run their weekly English Conversation classes out of Mixteca's space.

Opportunities to Volunteer with Mother to Mother:

We are always excited to hear from other ESL teachers or those who have a passion to teach English, regardless of experience.

One off skills session:
If you are unable to commit to weekly classes but would like to offer your time and skills in a single session to help equip students, or share your expertise, we’d also love to hear from you! Previous volunteers from the community have focused on Immigration rights for undocumented individuals, recycling, health benefits of Essential Oils and others.

Opportunities to give financially:
We are currently self-funding this project and would love to see it expand into much more! 100% of the proceeds will go directly towards costs from this project.

We are raising funds to cover the costs of workbooks, dictionaries, food and beverage, guest speakers, childcare costs for the teachers and an end of the year party.
